Encapsulated Crawl Spaces

Encapsulated crawl spaces are becoming increasingly popular in the Tidewater area. Encapsulation involves the installation of a liner that completely covers the crawl space ground and extends up the foundation walls. In some instances we have seen the walls spray foamed, or the use of rigid or batt insulation on the walls. As Pest Management Professionals blocking visual access to these areas is of great concern to us. We inspect the foundation for presence of termite tunnels and also look for any evidence of previous treatments so we can provide the homeowner an accurate report of the homes condition.

While the installers of these systems promise energy savings and protection of the home from current moisture conditions that exist in your crawl space, these systems can also have some unintended negative consequences. Please review the information below before considering encapsulating your crawl space.
